Tobacco Road, Miami's oldest bar, restaurant, cabaret and Mecca for live music, celebrates its 97th anniversary Friday, November 20th & Saturday, November 21st, This year we are having an incredible 2 day weekend blowout concert featuring 12 of Miami's most electrifying bands.

In honor of the anniversary, Tobacco Road has extended its award winning "97 cents for 97 minutes" Happy Hour drink special. The 97 cent drink specials are Friday, November 6th & 13th from 6:00pm-7:37pm then again from 11:00pm-12:37am. Saturdays, November 7th & 14th from 11:00pm-12:37am. This is just one of the ways we are thanking Miami for a great 97 years of support.

6th ANNUAL EVERGLADES AWARENESS BENEFIT CONCERT

AT TOBACCO ROAD HOSTED BY PLOPPY PALACE PRODUCTIONS

On Saturday, March 21, 2009 Ploppy Palace Productions and Tobacco Road will be hosting a concert to raise awareness and funds for the Hold The Line Campaign and for Everglades protection. As part of this four stage extravaganza, some of South Florida's top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together to raise awareness for this vital natural resource.

As a testament to the diversity of supporters for this cause, there will be a broad variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, folk, blues, traditional Peruvian, vocal harmonies, melodic keyboards, Latin, funk, experimental, tribal rhythms, world beat fusion, psychedelic grooves and various interactive jams.

Here II Here, Coffee House Gypsies, Starving Artist Tour, The Southwood Project, The Dashboard Saints, Carl Ferrari & Friends, Ana Kanpa, Gecko Jazz Project, The Barkless Dawgs, Val C. Wisecracker, Andrew Bayuk, Grant Livingston, Robert Baldwin, Steve Minotti, Hoosha, Kiwikey, Ethreal, Jenna’s Boneyard, Lonesome Grey, Tom Schafer, Brian Smalley, Kuyayky, Nacho, Los Inmigrantes, Togen, Cleaveland Jones, Shawn Snyder, Robby Hunter, The Livesays, Tristan Clopet & the Juice, Halosolar, Utah Green and other selected performers will be showcasing original music.

Alonso, Angelo Pizarro, Nicholas The Storyteller, Martian Ambassador and other spoken word artists will be presenting innovative poetry with musical accompaniment.

Mark A.S. will be offering a satirical commentary about history and the progressive attitude towards the environment.

Elviza, Stacy Oh, ZiZi & Friends will be performing a variety of dance and movement pieces to energetic, rhythmic percussion and ambient tones.

In addition Linx, Anibal Fernandez and other creative artists will be rendering a live art demonstrations to visually complement the music.

In addition, there will be a DVD slide show from the Everglades Art Exhibition which will include artwork from Susan Andreasen, Gudrun Napp, Darlene Harris, Aeric Moskowitz, Mike & Deb Matthews, Marguerite Gil, Kathy Pietro, Danny Arenas, Elizabeth Del Pozo & Marc Amore, Silvia Llopis and Xavier Cortes.

Conservation advocates from Miami Sierra Club will be speaking about their involvement in the Hold The Line Campaign. Other speakers will include Mario Yanez from Earth Learning, Ray Scattone from the F.I.U. Dept. of Environmental Studies, Dawn Shirreffs from Clean Water Action as well as a selection of special guests.

Miami Sierra Club, Clean Water Action, Artists for Community Evolution, F.I.U. Dept. of Environmental Studies and other community organizations will have information booths with handouts and contacts to help educate about social issues and the environmental risk that threatens the natural balance of the Everglades. The event will work to raise funds and awareness for the Hold The Line Campaign and support efforts by a selection of various organizations.

Currently, the Everglades is one of the most threatened natural habitat in the western hemisphere. Residential development, water management and agricultural use have shifted natural water patterns and have altered the vitality of the ecosystem. With an alarming number of people moving into South Florida every year, we need to come together and help to protect the Everglades for our survival.

In addition there will be vendors and small businesses promoting and selling their merchandise, including The Wallflower Gallery, Sergio Torres, Progressive Rags, Between Spirit & Stone Jewelry and selected independent corporations.

On Saturday, January 24, 2009 Ploppy Palace Productions and Tobacco Road will be hosting the 11th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert to raise funds for FL NORML’s (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) medical marijuana campaign and the protection of patients’ rights. As part of this four stage extravaganza, some of South Florida's top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together for patients’ and physicians’ right to use medical cannabis.

As a testament to the diversity of supporters for this cause, there will be a broad variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, reggae, folk, vocal harmonies, hip-hop, funk, experimental, tribal rhythms, world beat fusion, psychedelic grooves and various interactive jams.

Martian Ambassador & the Captured Chorus will be presenting a spoken word piece called "Inevitable Inauguration, Irreversible Impeachment".

Mark A.S. will be presenting social satire about the laws concerning medical marijuana and the drug war.

In addition, Elviza Isis, Stacy Oh and other dancers will be performing a variety of dance and movement pieces to energetic, rhythmic percussion and ambient tones.

Plus Anibal Fernandez and Linx will be rendering a live painting demonstration to visually complement the music.

Irvin Rosenfeld and Elvy Musikka, legal medical marijuana patients, will be describing their experiences with obtaining medical marijuana through the federal government.

The 11th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert will also feature a selection of community speakers who will present information about the issues including Norm Kent - National NORML Board of Directors, Sara Yousuf - criminal defense attorney, Roger Scott from Florida NORML, members from the Florida Green Party and other concerned citizens.

FL NORML, Florida Green Party and various other organizations will have informational booths with literature and handouts to help educate about community issues and the medical marijuana campaign in Florida.

The event will work to raise funds and awareness for FL NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) medical marijuana campaign and the protection of patients’ rights. Previously, a person's right to use medical necessity as a defense to marijuana charges has been upheld by several appeals courts in Florida. Marijuana has proven therapeutically useful in treating numerous medical conditions including muscle spasticity, arthritis, and the nausea related to AIDS and cancer chemotherapy. Currently there are 12 states that have laws allowing marijuana to be used as medicine.
