Johnny Dread transcends his Reggae Music with a blend of Roots Rock Reggae and Contagious lyrics as diverse as his philosophies from his undeniable rebel soul. He is an inspiring artist who started his career as a reggae drummer in Miami. He quickly created a buzz when he arrived at the compounds at Vista Lane (Bob Marley’s Home in Pine Crest, Florida) by way of a friend where he met the Marley crew. A young Julian Marley(Vocals), his uncle Anthony Booker(Bassist), and a seasoned guitarist and musical mentor from Greneda, West Indies, Allan “Bagga” Mitchel, formed the band Copacetic. Their first album, “Ghetto Rock”, hit the #7 rank on the Billboard Reggae charts in 1990. After honing his skills as a drummer, Johnny then made a career change and became a solo front man, becoming a trubador on the streets of South Beach and a cornerstone at the Bob Marley Festival in Miami. He also played an intricate part of the grassroots reggae movement in Miami. In 1990, Johnny decided to embark on a personal and spiritual journey to the Island of Jamaica where he found the “Natural Mystic”. His profound experience with the Rastafarian culture impacted his soul to the core so much it led to a reassessment of his music and life. He recorded his first solo album, “Scarecrow,” in 1994. A fan-favorite, his live powerful and soul-wrenching performances have inspired and cultivated loyal audiences spanning worldwide.
